Painting Trees

09/05/2010

Trees are becoming a large part of my life lately. I have started a new silver tree painting; the set I designed for the upcoming production of Midsummer Night’s Dream is a giant tree; and last night I dreamt I lived in a tree house. I went to a campfire girl camp when I was about 11. We slept in a giant tree house. It was so much more fun than regular tent camping, very, “O’er canopied” (as Titania would say.)

Domino in the Knothole

Trees are so comforting, so bring-up-the-value-of-your real estating, and so universal. It didn’t take much research to find that almost every artist, at one time or another paints trees from curly trees (Klimt)

to realistic trees (Rembrant)

to cubist trees (Picasso)

to  Tim Burton trees

to, in my case, silver trees.

Fun to climb, home to birds and squirrels, harbingers of the seasons, the tree is a symbol of sturdiness, dependability, and beauty. In these days of uncertainty, we need trees more than ever.

Capriciously,

Charlotte

Your "Domino in the Knothole" and my latest poem, "Halloween 11" would be naturals together. Certainly gives one the impression that these two sisters are a bit dark, creative, and most importantly, whimsical!" Nancy
I love your silver tree painting, Charlotte! I can't believe how you are finding the time and inspiration to turn out all of this beautiful art (and an entertaining blog on top of that). I'm excited to see all this creativity flowing through you! Holly
